Annual Report

The following are some of the key achievements of 2010.

Expansion of the network of Graduates nationally and internationally

CAARU has maintained regular contacts with Rajshahi University Alumni Association, USA, Rajshahi University Alumni Association , Australia and Central Alumni Association of Rajshahi University in Bangladesh. On behalf of the association Professor Dr. Zafar Reza Khan held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and representatives of the Central Alumni Association of Rajashahi University at the beginning of 2010. In April 2011, Mustafiz Khan Pappu, member of our executive committee also met with the Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University and updated him on CAARU activities in Canada.

Continued Maintenance of Membership Database

CAARU maintains a website www.caaru.ca which contains a data base of current members and serves as a bulletin board to keep members up to speed on different events. The website also serves as a communication platform for members in Canada and Rajshahi University Graduates all over the world.

Honouring Alumni Success to inspire members in Canada

To strengthen the network in Canada, CAARU has arranged programs to appreciate and honour Alumni success in North America. This step was undertaken to engage other members through the success of Rajshahi University Graduates in different spheres of life. Continuation of this step will help to develop a strong sense of pride and confidence that is absolutely critical to integrate in a new society.

Standing with members in times of need

CAARU always stands beside its members in times of hardship, stress and grievance. The goal is to make members feel that they are not alone in times of need and that they have a big family to rely on. Some of key moments are the Condolence meeting for Professor Dr. Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury , Ex Professor of Rajshahi University and later the Vice Chancellor of the Independent University of Bangladesh, prayer meeting for the departed soul of Wing Commander GH Mirza, a devoted member of CAARU, prayer meetings for CAARU member Summon Zafar`s father`s departed soul , Ronju`s mother in law`s departed soul , Zahid Hossain `s brother`s departed soul and the departed soul of Mr. Moqbul Hossain Mintu’.s brother.

Organizing Social Events

CAARU has organized four annual events in 2010 which includes a general meeting and BBQ in May, members reunion in July, Annual Picnic in August and Motihar Shondha in November. In addition, CAARU is participating in International Mother Language Day on the 21st of February. Participation of members in these occasions has been inspiring and enables us to host these events each year.

Providing Settlement Support

CAARU’s settlement service committee has provided support services and guidance to new Rajshahi University Graduates arriving in Canada. This support covers airport pick-up, finding accommodation and helping with other settlement concerns. In addition, support was provided in areas such as opening bank accounts, application for Health Cards and Social Insurance numbers as well as help in getting jobs at the initial stage of settlement.

Organize programs beneficial to Rajshahi University Graduates in Canada

Last year, CAARU got registered as a non-profit Canadian Incorporation. This achievement can be considered as a major step towards finding and applying for community programs, such as training workshops, internships and introduction to professional organizations.

Steps towards integration within the broader Society

Participation of local Members of both the Federal and Provincial Parliaments and Councilors from the City of Toronto in different CAARU events in 2010, exchanging ideas and exploring opportunities in getting involved in community events.

Goals for 2011-2012

Steps in 2011-2012 will include initiatives in terms of finding and applying for community programs, such as training workshops, internships and introduction to professional organizations. Other steps will include: Scholarship for students of Rajshahi University Expanding the current network and database Arrange a conference for chapter co coordinators Developing process to raise funds to manage the activities of the organization.
